I’ll leave it to others much smarter, wiser, and more educated than I (I couldn’t get through her book, to tell you the truth) to sum up the life of Jane Jacobs, who died today, but I found this, from today’s New York Times, too precious to ignore. Ms. Jacobs became a beloved intellectual pioneer [...]

A new project has been announced for the South End, at 301-319 Columbus Avenue. Details are sketchy, but it appears it will be called “The Bryant”, according to a banner across the front of a building at that address (to be torn down). It will be a 9-story mixed use building with 50 residential units, [...]

Let’s see if I keep up with this topic. Over the past several months, a lot of real estate agents have left their old companies, and either joined up with new companies, or gone out on their own (ahem). Here’s a run-down of what I know (if you see your name, and I’ve got it [...]

Hello. I haven’t heard much about 360 Newbury, the luxury mid-rise conversion going on above the Virgin Records store, at the top of Newbury Street. The listings aren’t in MLS, and I’ve never had a client interested in looking at it, I think mostly because of its location (congested) and limited appeal of living over [...]

I go through Dudley Square about once every two weeks. During the day, it’s very busy. Lots of stores full of people, a very active MBTA bus stop. It’s very congested. I think the traffic flow is all wrong. I think they tried to make things right by making some of the streets one-way, but [...]

New development just announced in the South End. Called The Modern (because SoCoLofts wasn’t cool enough?), it will be a 25-unit, six-story condo building near the intersection of Columbus Ave and Massachusetts Ave, at 255 Northampton Street. I knew about this project from when I worked at Coldwell Banker (their South End office is handling [...]

Data out yesterday from the US Census Bureau shows that Massachusetts has lost 40,000, annually, from 2000 to 2004. The Boston Globe puts an interesting spin on it, opting not to blame high housing costs (as the New York Times does) but lack of jobs, for the exodus. I think you know where I stand. [...]
