South End’s Concord Baptist Church sold for “at least $3.3 million” … condos to follow?
The historic Concord Baptist Church in Boston’s South End has been sold. Price: “at least $3.3 million”, according to the church’s pastor, Reverend Dr Conley Hughes.
According to the South End News:
[The new owner] plans to “œconvert the property into condo residences.” Hughes did not confirm who purchased the church but a church agenda shown to the South End News shows that N&P Associates, which developed 10 East Springfield St. and 877 Harrison Ave., offered the winning bid.
The property, while historic, is not subject to any preservation laws, as far as I know (meaning it could be torn down).
The church’s elders chose to list the property for sale after realizing that much of its congregation had moved from the neighborhood over the years. The Baptists have been there since 1946. The church was constructed 139 years ago.
The property was originally listed at $12 million in April, 2006, according to the Multiple Listing Service; most recently it was listed at $5.9 million.
The church will not vacate the premises until 2009.
