There is a problem with this post. “02210 – Seaport District” should be “02210 – South Boston Waterfront”. There is no neighborhood called the Seaport District. It’s unfortunate that real estate agents mislead their clients.

You are mistaken, and to be honest and frank with you, I’m tired of your posts.

There is no “official” name for the area; City Councilor James Kelly did take the issue before the council, but that’s not law, just an ordinance.

South Boston has no claim to the area; South Boston ends where L Street ends and Summer Street begins.

There is no historical claim to the land; in fact, much of it didn’t even exist when the rest of South Boston was filled-in. It is a separate and distinct neighborhood. Throughout much of the 1990’s, it was called “Seaport District” by the city; check out any of the development plans from this time period.

Perhaps you and I could discuss over a drink at the “SEAPORT hotel” or while visiting a friend at the new “Park Lane SEAPORT apartments” while we drive down “Seaport Boulevard”.

I’m not misleading people, I am calling it what a lot of people call it.

    John,

I think anon makes a valid point. Calling this area the “Seaport” is purely marketing mumbo jumbo. From the City of Boston’s website:

“Perhaps you and I could discuss over a drink at the “SEAPORT hotel” or while visiting a friend at the new “Park Lane SEAPORT apartments” while we drive down “Seaport Boulevard”.”

..or we can go to BOSTON Billiards Club in Nashua, NH and we both are intelligent enough to know we would not be in Boston.

“South Boston ends where L Street ends and Summer Street begins.”

Uhh…not it does not. There is a reason the second you cross the channel on Summer Street there is a sign that says “Welcome To South Boston.”

John, you have a great blog and seem to be a good agent. Please don’t let all that go to waste by coming up with trendy (false) neighborhood names to woo your clients with.

This is a very silly conversation and not worthy of anyone taking sides. The area is very clearly defined as both the Seaport District and the South Boston Waterfront. It is not a “false” neighborhood name; it has been called both.

If we’re going to start using “historical”names, then I will require you all to call South Boston by its original name, “Dorchester Heights”.

I am only suggesting we call it by its CORRECT and CURRENT name.
