Breaking: Barking Crab proposes development near Seaport Square
There’s a really vulgar term that people sometimes use when someone does something that keeps someone else from doing something?
Anyway, the Barking Crab just did that to Seaport Square.
John Hynes & Gale International (backed by Morgan Stanley, among others) has proposed a massive mixed-use development for land in the SBW / Seaport District neighborhood of Boston. The development will be spread among ten buildings, some residential (apartments and condos) and some office, along with some new park and open land. And, plenty of parking (6,000 spots?).
The developer is in the midst of getting approval of Phase I, which includes two (three?) buildings; one of these is proposed for right across the street from the Moakley courthouse. Right next to the Barking Crab restaurant.
Well, wouldn’t you know it, now the Barking Crab has its own idea.

The owners of The Barking Crab Restaurant are proposing a remake of the clam shack — a move that could complicate a neighboring plan by Gale International, developers of the massive project known as Seaport Square.
The Barking Crab owners [are] … now are proposing their own six-storey building with residential, retail and possibly office uses.
Gale International did all the “dirty” work, hosting at least six community meetings, modified all its plans, got everyone on board (including the BRA) and now the BC wants to come in and just build?
Well, wouldn’t you?
