Houses You Can Buy For Practically Nothing

detrroit-real-estate

Realtor.com just came up with a list of houses you can buy for $8,000. That’s right–the government is basically paying you to take them—if you’re a first time homebuyer. The site says there are about 200 such listing nationwide, of the four million the site tracks.

Note: Such properties will likely need work. And closing costs will be about $2,500, but that shouldn’t be a deal breaker. Look at that five bedroom, bank-owned beauty in Detroit up above! At 2,000 square feet that’s $4 a square foot, land included. Come on, someone’s going to make money on that.

File Under: Who the hell wants to live in Detroit.

Ultimately some residential areas of Detroit are going to have to be leveled and turned into large parks. The problem is their are too many houses in Detroit and not enough people to buy them all. Since 1950, the population of Detroit has declined by 50%.

You think with land values so cheap, that Corp America would be flocking to MI to set up shop because they can afford to pay smaller wages, and people can move there easily.

MI is doing something wrong when it can’t do that.

If they can attract and create jobs, then this would be a golden opportunity. Where’s the political will?
