Currently in Boston, buying a Boston condo surpasses renting an apartment as the optimal choice in under 5 years, similar to pre-bubble results, according to the above Fannie Mae housing chart.

    I’d love some more information on this “Case Schiller Base Line” they are using for home price appreciation. The assumptions about home price appreciation usually drive the results. Change the assumption from 4% per year to 10% per year and you completely change the outcome of the analysis. What are they “forecasting” for Boston price appreciation?

    …says the company selling loans. By their analysis, someone who bought in 2004 should have come out ahead very, very quickly: by 2006. That obviously didn’t happen, given the price declines that commenced in 2005. Mike hit the nail on the head.

    Fuuny, forrget about home equity loans…people can’t afford their credit cards. Boston condo prices will drop 10% in 2011.
