Casinos launch an old-fashioned land rush!

Now that the Legislature has approved a casino bill, casino developers are wasting no time buying up land for possible gambling sites in Massachusetts. They seem to be concentrating in the western part of the state.
This is going to be interesting. Whether you like casinos or not, the character of some towns are inevitably going [...]

The tally: About 5,000 new apartment units slated for Boston

The Boston Globe has a big story that looks at all the different apartment-building projects around the city.
The bottom line: About 5,000 units have been proposed, or work has already started on new units,  since the start of the year. The article has a link to an excellent graphic showing all the projects. It’s pretty [...]

Downtown Crossing office building to be turned into apartments

Harold Brown, the area’s apartment-building king, is turning the 12-story office building at 8 Winter Street into 48 apartment units.
Forty of the units will be one-bedrooms, while eight would be studios. The rent would range from $1,650 to $1,950.
Brown and the article don’t mention who the target market might be in the future. But one suspects, [...]

Real Estate transactions – Penn State style

I’m sure this is just a coincidence. The New York Times is reporting that Joe Paterno recently conducted a real estate transaction that some may call as a penalty for an illegal formation. Apparently, Joe Pa may have known that his Penn State football career was going to take a hard-hit tackle. The coach with [...]

Nothing about Boston real estate. But still interesting

Here’s a trivia question: What time of the day does the internet have the most users online?
Answer: 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. That’s when the largest number of people in the world are likely awake (and on their computers), according to designer Mr. Edlund. How he arrived at that conclusion is in many ways more [...]

Boston real estate: There’s more to the story

In this month’s Boston Magazine there’s an article regarding Boston real estate foreclosures. The article starts off with:
Screwed by the mortgage companies, blasted by the real estate bubble, and hung out to dry by the government, angry Boston homeowners are banding together to fight back…..
The story goes on to feature Ms. Drusilla Francis and her [...]

Developer of ‘W’ tower must sell 71 condos

A judge is allowing the developer of W Boston Hotel and Residences to emerge from bankruptcy, as long as it sells off its remaining 71 condo units and pays back creditors.
The idea of selling all the new Stuart Street condos in this market sounds a little far-fetched. But the Herald article notes that 22 [...]
