Boston Condos
The city of Cambridge has approved new zoning rules that would allow MIT to build more and larger buildings in the popular Kendall Square area. The city is also pushing developers to set aside affordable space for start-up companies.
There will be some residential and retail components to the overall master plan proposed by MIT – but whether it will be enough to satisfy neighborhood groups is another matter.
The goal is obviously to boost the total amount of buildable lab and office space in the now crowded Kendall Square. But school officials are also trying to make the square more 24/7 livable. See above architectural rendering of the possible future streetscape.
