Boston Real Estate for Sale

Boston real estate trash

Boston City Council quickly adopted the new “green ticket” law, giving the city substantial new powers dealing with trash and snow removal violations. The Boston law will go into effect on May 11, 2010.

Boston has always fined landlords for trash and snow violations, but until this time, the city had no way of enforcing payments of fines levied through tickets that officers attach to the exterior of buildings. Presently, some $4 million in unpaid fines have accumulated in Boston since 2006, consisting mostly of $30.00 trash fines.

The new law will allow unpaid ticket fines to be added to the tax bill. If the fines are still not paid, a lien can be placed against the property, which will allow the city to collect interest – plus fines -at the time of the property’s sale.
