Via Business Insider, here’s a cool chart showing the severity of the nation’s housing market crash — and partly comparing it to Boston’s infamous housing market bust in the late ’80s.
The chart ultimately comes from the White House. Considering how many Harvard/MIT economists work in Washington, it seems as though a certain percentage of them may well remember what it was like around here 20 or so years ago — and they pulled out the old stats for comparison purposes.
Who knows? Anyway, it’s pretty startling to look at — and to remember. One encouraging note: Today’s Boston housing market isn’t as bad as the national housing market. It would be interesting to plot the Boston trend line in the chart above with today’s local numbers. Anyone know how to do it?
