The headlines in today’s newspapers state that: “Housing sales fall by 16.7%” But how did the Boston condo market do? Well, according to LINK December ‘09 sales were up compared to the same month in ‘08.

According to ZIP Realty survey, the percentage of homes (Boston area) whose prices have been reduced as of 10/31/09 was 46.1%.
The percentage of change in the number of homes listed for sale at the end of October compared to a month earlier is a negative -3.7%.

Trulia has recently added a tool that allows potential buyers to view price reductions for each property listing on their site. Buyers can also narrow their search to include only homes that have seen price cuts. So I checked out Boston for price reductions and found the following.

Today’s Boston Globe has an article on how low mortgage rates, falling prices, and a tax credit are luring first-time buyers into the market.
Karl Case, co-founder of the SP/Case-Shiller home price index is stated as saying “The lower end is where the action is.”
