On November 4, the Governor signed the “Installation of Carbon Monoxide Alarms and Smoke Alarms Act”.
All residential single-family and multi-family homes and condos being heated by gas or oil, or has a fireplace or wood-burning stove, must have a carbon monoxide detector installed, either battery-powered or hard-wired, by March 31, 2006.
Much like the current smoke detector law, the property must pass an inspection prior to receiving final building permits (if new construction) or anytime the property is sold.
More details can be found in this Greater Boston Real Estate Board release.
