Olmsted Green, which involves the new construction of a 42-acre, mixed – use, mixed – income community, including more than 500 units of new housing. Olmsted Green is part of the massive redevelopment of the former Boston State Hospital site near Franklin Park.
Olmsted Green will also offer accessibly priced, energy – efficient quality homes in a unique community setting dedicated to promoting inclusiveness. The housing component of Olmsted Green will include 287 market rate townhouses and condominiums, 153 affordable apartments (to be constructed in three phases), and 83 units of rental housing for seniors.
The development will also include an 11,000-square-foot building for Heritage House and Department of Mental Health programming, creation of housing and job and job training opportunities for those with mental illness, exhibition space for the New England Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and a 123-bed skilled nursing and mental health rehabilitation facility — the first of its kind in Boston in many years.
Olmsted Green will also feature an Urban Farm, which will be a year-round agricultural and aquaculture production, along with a small farm stand and market area.
The buildings at Olmsted Green are designed with an energy efficient “green” building system complete with Energy Star appliances, energy efficient windows, and top-rated insulation.
