However, here’s a link to a great story about Jane Jacobs. People are always talking about her, so if you live in a city such as Boston, or plan on moving to a city such as Boston, you should at least know what she is all about.
If you must, go to a library and check out “The Death and Life of Great American Cities”. I gotta tell you, I couldn’t get through it, but maybe that’s just me.
Don’t waste your time. Go to this blog entry, read all about Ms. Jacobs, or at least bookmark it and go back to it, some snowy day when you have nothing else to do.
It’s a one-sided view of her, and I disagree with a lot of the conclusions of the author (he says, for example, that “urban renewal may have been a self-inflicted American disaster on a par with the Vietnam War” – um, yeah), but you can still learn alot.
I’m more into sleek, shiny, high-rises, myself.
