Boston Renters Know Your Rights
A new Massachusetts law, effective August 1, 2025, prohibits landlords from charging tenants broker fees for rentals they have not hired a broker to represent them. The law requires that the party who hired the broker—typically the landlord—must pay the fee. Tenants are now only responsible for fees if they specifically hire their own agent to find a property for them
