In the South End, they’re arguing about the proposed re-development of the current Herald site on Harrison Avenue. But there’s a twist: Neighbors want the project to be more ambitious, prompting one reader to email us, “Oh, my. I’ve never heard of a reverse NIMBY fight before. …”

It’s got to be some sort of historical first. Neighbors are supposed to oppose everything, not the other way around.

Anyway, this is how the current main plan is described in the South End News:

One of two of the current concepts for the structure consists of 68-foot, mixed-use building, which would have 64,000-square-foot of retail space, and 250 to 350 rental units split between four and five levels throughout the structure. Clancy (of National Development) envisioned a building with a grocery store, underground garage parking, and green spaces; a living area that would have its lights on 18-hours a day, transforming the now quiet and underutilized corner of the South End. This concept would include a building that sits in the footprint of the Herald building. The current parking areas, which occupy the south edge of the property and the east-side corners of the property, wouldn’t be developed.

The reference to “68-foot” is not clear. But you get the picture.
