Boston is one of “America’s Most Literate Cities.”

The 2008 study ranks Boston 8th in the nation for literacy, according to John W. Miller, president of Central Connecticut State University. Only cities with populations of at least 250,000 were ranked, based on indicators such as newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, library resources, Internet resources, etc.

Here is the top ten list:

1. Minneapolis
3. Washington, D.C.
4. St. Paul, MN
5. San Francisco
6. Atlanta
7. Denver
8. Boston
9. St. Louis
10. Cincinnati
10. Portland
