Developers have filed yet a new plan to more fully develop the giant Government Center garage near Haymarket. The latest plan would call for more office, residential, retail and hotel space.
A previous proposal to build two huge skyscrapers on the same site got shot down by neighbors and the mayor’s office. The most recent effort is being pushed by Tom O’Brien, the former head of the BRA who is now in private development.
The skyscraper plan was pretty odd — and it would have cast a huge shadow over the new Rose Kennedy Greenway, not to mention the North End and elsehwere. But maybe this plan is better. It’d be nice to have something there other than a giant parking garage.
