Boston Real Estate for Sale

A local developer wants to build a 350-foot residential tower on the corner of Essex Street, in the Leather District, overlooking the Rose Kennedy Greenway (oh, alright, it also borders Chinatown).

Currently on the site: the old Dainty Dot Hosiery building.

According to the Boston Globe:

The Boston Landmarks Commission staff has recommended against giving the 118-year-old Dainty Dot building on the edge of Chinatown protection with official landmark status.

Yay.

But, siding with other preservation groups and fans of the Romanesque Revival and Classical-style building in the city’s former textile district, the staff urged the current developer to try to save the six-story structure.

Boo.

Half of this building was torn down to construct the Central Artery, in the 1950’s.

In my opinion, they might as well tear down the rest of it.

Instead, you’ll probably see some sort of perverted hybrid of a building, with a ridiculous facade made up of the brick building on the first six floors, and glass and steel, above that.

That’s preferred???
