The January jobs report is out, and Massachusetts’ unemployment rate increased from 4.8%, last year, to 5.3%, this year.
The increase is not necessarily bad. It’s just that more people are looking for jobs than a year ago.
The state’s January jobs total of nearly 3.26 million is up 29,400 from a year earlier.
However, Massachusetts’ total employment is off 124,100 from its peak of 3.38 million, in February 2001.
