One of the hippest nightclubs in Cambridge that serves indie rock and Lebanese food is exploring the possibility of adding up to 100 apartments or condominiums to its menu.
Brothers Joseph and Nabil Sater, who have operated the Middle East in Central Square since 1970, are talking with neighbors about the possibility of expanding upward by redeveloping the 13,000-square-foot lot. The building’s landlord recently died and the DuPont family want to sell the property. The 23,388-square-foot, two-story property is assessed at $2.4 million and the sellers are seeking $7 million for the site.
It sounds great, something that could further enliven an already lively Central Square. Not sure we’d like to live above a popular nightclub. But others might not mind and the region needs more housing and so …
