The BRA has approved a new 490-bed dormitory project for Boston College, a move that will likely relieve some housing pressures on nearby neighborhoods.
Of course, that assumes BC maintains its current student enrollment. If it increases enrollment in future years, it simply won’t relieve the demand for private housing in abutting neighborhoods.
But, theoretically, this should help with the housing shortage in Boston.
Curiously, the BRA postponed a vote on a Northeastern plans that also includes new dorms. The university apparently pulled the plan, temporarily, from consideration so it can work with community critics to iron out differences.
