Island Pond Boston Broker story
It was the second year in a row that the Beacon Hill broker visited Island Pond. He enjoyed the family gatherings, but most of all sitting on the wooden bench beside the lake and gaze out over the water, which is often disturbed by a persistent breeze and paddle boats.
He was told by the locals that several children drowned here in the lake twenty years ago, and he often imagined their tiny hands in the water, and hear small, childlike voices.
Long past child-bearing age, The Beacon Hill broker had always wanted children. That never could be. Perhaps–God could grant this!–that he might one day see those lost children, and even converse with them and tell them how much they are still loved.
It would be the greatest gift from God and he would ask no more than this.
Love thy neighbor
