There wouldn’t be a housing shortage in Massachusetts if the suburbs allowed new housing construction at the same pace as Boston.
Yesterday, the BRA approved four new projects in four neighborhoods, for a combined total of 1,100 units. That’s in addition to the 5,300 housing units currently under construction in the city.
It’s pretty amazing.
Now if only the suburbs would follow suit. But they won’t, unfortunately, unless prodded by state government. That could well happen soon. The state is economically strangling itself by not building enough housing.
The photo above is of the proposed 320-unit The Point in the Fenway. The other projects are in Seaport, Dorchester and East Boston.
