Can the shape of your house impact your health? That was a popular theory in the 1850’s, when a vegetarian phrenologist named Orson Squire Fowler argued that eight-sided homes provided the best light, ventilation, and beneficial living space for families.
Fowler’s theory touched off an Octagon-building fad, that didn’t last long. However, several hundred octagonal homes still survive throughout the country. See the photos below of octagon homes.
