Top Neighborhoods for Commuting to Downtown Boston
One of the top must haves I hear from (out of state) new Boston condo for sale buyers? A straightforward commute to downtown Boston. With many companies now requiring a few days a week in the office, living near reliable public transit has become more important than ever. If you’re house hunting with that in mind, here are the neighborhoods I think offer the best access to the T (subway):
1.Beacon Hill: Yes, everyone loves Beacon Hill for its Charles Street retail corridor, Beacon Hill has diverse population with brick-row architecture buildings amidst tree-lined streets. But it’s also excellent if you need to get downtown regularly. The ideal commuting section of Beacon Hill is the Mass General/Charles St Red Line T stop. From there, you can access Park Street, downtown Boston and South Station.
2. Back Bay: Just next door to Beacon Hill is the popular Back Bay, with its hot Newbury Street with its restaurants/shop/café strip.
3. North End: In the heart of Boston downtown area. This is walkable accessible to most parts of downtown Boston. Hanover Street in the North End is well known for its Italian food.
4. Boston Seaport: No rail lines service this area, but buses run frequently to and from downtown on practically every Boston neighborhood, including Financial District, Boston Midtown, and Downtown Crossing.
5. Fenway: A bit more low key than its Back Bay neighbor, Fenway is served by the Green Line T. The station is at Mass Ave steps from all the restaurants, shops and cafes. The train can get pretty crowded at peak times, but it’s definitely a direct line to downtown.
6. Leather District: The Leather District also runs through Chinatown, but the residents of this very small section of Boston can also walk over to downtown Boston Financial District.
7. South Boston: Is ideal for workers in the Financial District, who have to the Red Line T lines running to downtown.
