NAR says that with 70 million baby-boomers now, the silver tsunami is on:
Yes, we’re having a senior situation (we never have problems, just situations).
initial thoughts:
Move before you turn 75 years old. If you know you’re going to move, don’t delay. It regularly takes seniors 1-2 years to physically move, and most of that time is spent trying to find a suitable replacement. Going through your ‘stuff’ is the other major undertaking, and here’s a news flash – your kids don’t want any of it.
Get Your Family Involved. You may think they are too busy, but if you make one mistake without them, you’ll never hear the end of it. Move closer to them, or heck, just move in with them!
You Will Need Assisted Living Eventually. Prepare in advance.
Alzheimer’s/Dementia Is a Progressive Brain Disorder. Those who have it will eventually forget how to take care of themselves, and they will lose all memory of those around them. The caregiving is very expensive ($850+ per day for 24-hour care). If you have it, consider giving your family permission to put you out to pasture to ease the burden on them. There are residential homes for the mid-to-late dementia patients, and they are better suited to provide around-the-clock care. It’s ok to live it out with them.
Reasons to move again:
- Be closer to family (primarily to be near the grandkids).
- Change from two-story to one-story home.
- Better neighborhood for you.
Being closer to family, and especially to be near the grandkids, is high up the list of reasons for seniors to move. Not only will it be easier for you to get some help from them as you grow older, but they will appreciate the free babysitting and help around the house

Meredith Ann Whitney is an American businesswoman and financial analyst. She is known for successfully forecasting the financial crisis of 2007–2008 and was dubbed “The Oracle of Wall Street” by Bloomberg.
Meredith is at it again……predicting the silver tsunami. She doesn’t present any evidence or data to prove it’s happening or when or where it will happen. She’s just getting paid for being an ivory-tower doomer:
Home prices may fall 20% as the housing market thaws — and help get baby boomers moving, research legend says. Click on the link below.
