Boston is the No. 5 greenest city in the U.S., according to a new study from insurance company battleface.

The travel insurance provider reviewed “cities of all sizes and in regions across the nation” to determine the 50 greenest communities in the U.S. It measured cities in five categories: Sustainable transportation options, access to parks and greenspace, carbon emissions, electric vehicle infrastructure and vegan friendliness.

Boston ranks high for public transportation

Boston scored well across all five categories. It was No. 3 for public transportation, No. 5 for electric vehicles, No. 9 for emissions, No. 11 for greenspace and No. 16 in vegan options.

“Nearly a third of its population reports using public transportation for their commutes, and 5% walk to work,” the report said of Boston. “Among other steps, it has pledged to ensure that every household is a less than a 10-minute walk from a public electric vehicle charging station or EV car-share program.“
