Good news for Beacon Hill condo owners and Beacon Hill apartment renters who own bikes, the city could add bicycle lanes to Charles Street, part of a range of street upgrades that officials will consider for Beacon Hill and other downtown Boston real estate neighborhoods.

The city hopes to make busy arteries like Charles, Cambridge and Beacon Street safer to bikers and walkers.

Presently Beacon Hill, bikers currently face a scramble of roads that are ill-equipped to carry them. For example, Charles Street does not provide any northbound traffic, meaning cyclists must ride on congested Beacon Street and dangerous Cambridge Street to travel to downtown to areas like Cambridge and Charelstown.

Not all are in agreement the Beacon Hill Civic Association’s  traffic committee,  stated the changes is likely to improve conditions for bikers, though the loss of of a vehicle lane could impact some businesses along Charles Street
