Downtown Boston is one of the more dog-friendly cities in the country, and many of its neighborhoods offer ideal environments for dogs and their owners.
As a Boston real estate broker for over 20 years, I’ve frequently meet clients looking for a home in a neighborhood that will provide what they need for their pets. That means close proximity to open space, dog-friendly cafes and shops, and a community of dog owners who support each other and their ‘hood.
So here are my picks for the best dog-owner neighborhoods in downtown Boston:
1. Beacon Hill. It has a a dog friendly retail area on Charles Street, with plenty of shops and cafes, that allow pets to enter. There’s also Beacon Hill itself, which has the Boston Common near by, as well as Charles River area.
2. Midtown. With Boston Common and the Public Garden at its doorstep, Midtown/downtown is an excellent choice for dog owners.
3. Seaport District. This is a great neighborhood for dogs because it’s near vital open spaces. There’s an excellent dog-walking area. The Seaport is also blocks away from the Harbor walk and the streets in the Seaport are nice and wide, so there’s plenty of sidewalk room, too.
