The new operator of the Faneuil Hall Marketplace is eyeing a major rehab of Boston’s famous tourist site.
Let’s hope the company, Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp., understands that the best way to revitalize a tourist site is sometimes to make it feel less like a tourist site. Faneuil Hall Marketplace isn’t as popular as it once was with locals due to its oversupply of tourist shops and non-local restaurants. It’s part of Boston. But sometimes it doesn’t feel like it’s part of Boston.
Ashkenazy has a good track record when it comes to running famous sites. It operates Union Station in Washington, D.C., and the highly popular Rivercenter Mall in San Antonio. Maybe it can ramp up the excitement here, too.
