Funny Charlestown Story
If you’re looking for a classic Charlestown story, you have to look at the legendary rivalry between “Townies” (lifelong locals) and “Tunies” (the newcomers who “tuned” in later).
One of the most famous funny anecdotes involves a newcomer trying to fit in at a local dive bar.
As the story goes, the “Tunie” walked in, ordered a craft beer, and tried to strike up a conversation with an old-timer who looked like he hadn’t left his barstool since 1974.
The newcomer asked, “So, how long do I have to live here before I’m considered a Townie?”
Without missing a beat, the old-timer took a sip of his Narragansett beer and replied, “If your grandmother wasn’t born in the Bunker Hill Projects, you’re still just a tourist.”
