Score one for opponents of Suffolk University’s expansion on Beacon Hill.

The unviversity, which recently experienced an administrative shakeup, is now putting on indefinite hold plans to build a 10-story New England School of Art and Design building at 20 Somerset Street, site of the old MDC headquarters on Beacon Hill.

If you may recall, the university initially planned to build a huge student dormitory on the site — before angry Beacon Hill neighbors killed the idea. Opponents weren’t exactly thrilled with their neighborhood becoming the next overrun-with-students Brighton.

But the universitity ended up striking a deal with neighbors to build the arts facility instead. Now even that plan appears to be off the table.
