A manager tapped Bob on the shoulder.
“You’re doing great, Bob,” said the manager. “We’re promoting you to Worker. Here’s your stinger.”
“Wow,” said Bob. “What perks does this entail?”
“Well, your pronouns will change. And the work gets harder. You’ll be responsible for gathering nectar for the larvae rather than lounging around the hive and mating with the Queen.”
“Oh. No more of that?”
“No more of that.”
“I see. Well, at least I get a stinger.”
“Right but use it once and you’ll die.”
Bob buzzed. “This doesn’t feel like a promotion.”
The manager shrugged. “That’s life, honey.”
