IKEA is partnering up with a U.S. design firm to possibly sell prefab homes for $86,500 each.
Don’t scoff at the idea. IKEA is already selling prefab homes in Europe, including a small subdivision/town near London’s planned Olympics Park.
The homes could be about 745 square feet each. Click the link above for photos.
But we’re not going to get too excited. Even an incredibly well-designed, efficient, inexpensive home faces a huge hurdle in Massachusetts: The price of property in the Bay State. Heck, the land will probably end up costing more than the home, depending on which town an owner plans to plunk down a new prefab home.
