Yesterday, an agent in my office rented a two bedroom apartment in Beacon Hill, the applicants were two MIT students. While the MIT students were completing the paper work they mentioned to us how other real estate offices were advertising the same apartment even though we were the only office with the listing.
This morning, I checked into their claim and sure enough another agent was advertising our apartment even though he doesn’t have the listing.
The reason I bring this up is not that I’m upset with the other agency but I strongly believe that Craigslist has become a joke with the overwhelming duplications of the same apartments being advertised over and over again.
I think I blogged about this before but I’ll say it again, Craigslist.org needs to put in place in Boston what they have in NYC. They need to charge a minimum fee to real estate brokers for each posting to at least try to minimize the duplication of apartment rentals.
