OK, this post isn’t about residential real estate. It’s about commercial real estate — in California. Still, look at these designs of Apple’s proposed new headquarters building in Silicon Valley. It’s impressive.
Expect for one thing: Is it Apple’s version of jumping the shark? You know, something so outrageous that it’s a sign of hubris and doom to come. The building might look cool on paper. It might look cool the first few years after it’s built. But you can also see it as part of a wind-swept, impractical wasteland 30 or so years from now, with no one wanting to stay or move there. Example: DEC’s headquarters in Maynard.
Well, here’s hoping Steve Jobs, and his future successors, know what they’re doing.
