A Back Bay atheist is walking through the woods, admiring the “accident of evolution,” when suddenly a massive grizzly bear charges towards him. He runs as fast as he can, but the bear closes in, trips him, and raises a massive paw to strike.

In desperation, the atheist cries out, “Oh my God!”

Time freezes, the bear stops in mid-air, and a voice booms from the sky: “You have denied my existence for years, taught others I don’t exist, and credited creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament?”

The atheist looks up and says, “It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask You to treat me as a Christian, but perhaps You could make the bear a Christian?”

“Very well,” says the voice. The light goes out. Time resumes.

The bear drops his paws, brings them together, and says:
“Lord, bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen.

“I’m sorry. I thought we’d have the day off. My bosses suddenly decided the corporate interests are more important than a holiday.”

“I see.”

“And I guess Monday is Labor Day, so we should labor!”

“Very funny.”

His phone rang. He answered it and talked. After hanging up, he said: “If the rumor I just heard is true, we get Monday off. Unfortunately, it would be because Redfin decided to do cost cutting to further corporate interests, and they’ll be laying us off tomorrow!”
