Boston Real Estate for Sale

The huge $2 billion North Point project, which ground to a legal and financial halt four years ago, is back on track again, thanks partly to a once feared Boston foe, Magic Johnson.

Johnson’s impressive real estate development firm, Canyon/Johnson, is among a group of investors who are brushing off the North Point project and getting it going again. The net result could be hundreds of new housing units, as well as an abundance of additional office and retail space. Plans for the 44-acre site, just north of the Museum of Science, also call for new parks and a new Lechmere Green Line station.

Some are saying North Point could become the next Kendall Square. We have our doubts. But it could well be a logical spillover site for Kendall Square.

Johnson, who used to play for the LA Lakers, is just one of those ex-athletes with a knack for real estate. Roger Staubach, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, is another, having started a commercial real estate company that he later sold for $600 million.

While Johnson has yet to prove he’s going to be as successful as Staubach, he’s definitely a post-NBA force within the business world.
