The Globe reviews the large and ambitious housing development currently under construction on the border of Malden and Revere.

The $500 million project will include 2,800 units of housing (over 700 rental units have already been completed, and another 700 are under construction). Overlook Ridge will also include a 200-room hotel and 75,000 square feet of retail space filled with smaller businesses.

Prices for the condos, which are being built with Lennar Urban, will start at $350,000 or $375,000. The condo towers will be six to 10 stories, and should be completed by the summer of 2008, and get their own moniker – Quarrystone.

Completion of the final stage is scheduled for 2012.

Roseland also developed the Port Imperial in New Jersey, a two-mile, 2,000-acre behemoth that was one of the nation’s biggest planned urban developments, and, in Massachusetts, Roseland and Lennar are redeveloping East Boston’s Pier One and the Hingham Shipyard.
