Daniel Friedman of The Boston Courant reports that two new residential conversion projects have been proposed for the area between the South End and Back Bay.
The first is at 79 Chandler St. This was previously a halfway house, but has been vacant since 2002. The developer has proposed 23 condos, and wants to add another penthouse floor on top of the existing building. Neighbors (of course) are unhappy about that, because they believe it will block their views and/or cause shade.
The second is at 285 Columbus Ave, in the old Red Cross / City Year building. The developer has proposed 49 one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes, including 8 affordable units. This project is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2008.
