Evening darkness accompanied her walk down Charles Street to her Beacon Hill apartment, with groceries in hand. A brisk wind howled past her ears. Tree branches swayed.

As she cautiously step down to her front door basement apartment, She reached into her purse. Not finding her house key.

Did she leave her purse open? She thought it was closed when reaching for the plastic separator for groceries on a checkout conveyor belt.

She surveyed the interior of the purse. Credit cards intact. Money as well.

In panic, she pulled out a spare key hidden under the doormat.

Once inside her basement apartment, a shadow of a man at the window with a flashlight caught her attention. Glaring light came shining on her and also illuminating the outdoor patio. As the neighbors dog was barking.

A man waved something before her, she felt a wave of fear — then she realized it was her boyfriend waving the key to her Beacon Hill apartment.
