Boston condo broker and the God tree

The last spring storm brought down the God tree—so called because of its age and enormity and because someone had carved “GOD” in the bark.

After the spring storm, splintered branches scattered across the woods where it had provided shade in the deep thicket, now a sadness rudely intruded. Exploring the wreckage, I could not find the engraving, but the sea of twisted sticks writhing like serpents in the gusty wind was proof enough. All around, trees continued living, fattening, spreading their arms wider. In time, they would be as thick and lush as the God tree; they’ll fill in all that glaring emptiness.

The above metaphor captured a specific sense of loss when a local landmark—even a natural one—disappears, and how the natural cycle of growth eventually mends the “glaring emptiness” left behind.

It’s an encouraging perspective for anyone navigating the current Boston real estate market, where the inventory can often feel as sparse as a cleared thicket. Connecting the patience of the forest to the patience required for a home search is a great way to keep things in perspective.
