Boston condo buyers mistake

Boston condo buyers have asked me in the past should I get a home inspection? As a beacon Hill broker, I always tell them, YES.

Below is a fictional story of a Beacon Hill condo buyer who skipped his home inspection

Arthur clutched his artisanal sourdough, eyes gleaming at the crown molding of the $2.4M studio. TheBeacon Hill condo was “cozy,” which in Boston-speak meant he could touch both walls simultaneously while standing in the kitchen.

“It has a private garden!” the broker chirped, pointing to a window box containing a single, depressed pansy. Arthur didn’t care; he wanted the prestigious Charles Street zip code and the right to complain about cobblestones.

He signed the deed, without a home inspection, handed over his life savings, and moved in.

On night one, he discovered the “historic charm” included hearing his neighbor’s sneeze through the floorboards.

“Bless you,” Arthur whispered.

“Thanks, Arthur,” the floor replied.
