With the swish of a pen, her Beacon Hill condo was no longer hers. It was what she had planned: buy a Boston condo, fix it up, and flip it for a profit. The closing date was only three weeks away.

Her boxes were packed; her cat had been vet-checked. They were ready to go, but she hadn’t found a replacement condominium yet. Properties for sale were few, many too expensive for her.

She felt scared and excited, panicky and optimistic. Suspended between the known and the unknown, she was walking a highwire of adventure.
