Mayor Walsh plans to announce today the creation of a new “zoning czar” position as part of an overall effort to re-zone parts of the city to make them more business friendly.
It’s probably a good idea. Mayor Walsh seems really eager to bring more business to Boston — and that’s very welcome.
But, hopefully, the changes will include making it easier to build homes in Boston, too. Obviously, Boston has had an excellent track record of late in approving new housing developments in the downtown area. What’s needed, though, is more affordable, smaller-scale housing projects in the neighborhoods where property is much cheaper.
