Don’t look now, but a proposal by Simon Property to build a 47-story residential tower near Copley Square is drawing more and more criticism.
The opponents’ biggest stated complaint: The tower will cast a huge shadow over the square. But the debate over shadows somehow always seems to drift toward another complaint: That there isn’t enough affordable units within the planned structure. That seems to be the real sticking point.
Bottom line: It’s a classic Boston real-estate development fight. It’ll probably be built. But nothing is ever easy in our dear town.
