She was excited to see her sister for her baby shower in Medford. She left Beacon Hill and was about to merge onto i-95 when – Boom!

She woke from unconsciousness, the car on its side and the smell of petrol in her nostrils.

Her daughter in the child seat whimpered, and she knew what she must do. Unclipping her seat belt, she fell heavily against the door, gashing her head.

She crawled into the rear of the car and passed her child up to the reaching hands at the smashed window, then fell back, unconscious again.

She didn’t see the man climb into the car to lift her to safety.

At MGH the emojis kept her alive, she was sure of it. When her car was t-boned by a truck driven by a man on his cell phone, members of her local Facebook Community Group quickly posted “prayers sent” or “praying for all” and hundreds of emojis with prayer hands, sad faces, tears, hearts, hugs and praying hands.

She had never sent comforting emojis to anyone. Now healed, home and back on her computer she began to thank the group with kisses and smileys. It felt good.
